Fall has finally hit and I am antsy to de-clutter and deep clean and do all those things that most people do in the spring. I have been giving the garbage people a run for their money with everything we have been able to toss, recycle or reuse in some way. But besides just de-cluttering, I also love to organize! And a garage is a spot that tends to get cluttered really quickly. So today I am sharing our Top 5 Tips to Organize Your Garage.
5 Tips to Organize Your Garage
Tip #1: Toss or Giveaway What You Don’t Need
I am a firm believer in de-cluttering and getting rid of things you no longer use or need. If you can give it away, donate it, sell it, reuse it or recycle it, that’s even better! But some things can’t be salvaged and it is ok to just throw them away.
Tip #2: Everything Needs a Home
Your home or garage can not be organized if everything you own does not have a specific place. So we make sure that everything that comes into our home has a place. This makes cleaning up more simple and also leads to a more organized home.
Tip #3: Shelves
Our garage it filled with amazing shelves and things are fairly organized out there and I just love it! Shelves provide amazing places to put and store items, such as bins to hold things like seasonal decor, camping items or whatever else you might have in your garage!
Tip #4: Rubbermaid Bins
We like to keep things really organized so we don’t just throw things onto our shelves. We used to use regular cardboard moving boxes to hold and store our stuff, but after a few moves those became tattered and worn and we slowly worked on upgrading all of our boxes to plastic bins! I particularly love these 18 gallon Rubbermaid Roughneck totes from The Home Depot! They are perfect for organizing seasonal items (like all of our pool stuff) or anything else we need to store. Plus they fit perfectly onto our shelves!
Tip #5: Get Creative
Your storage solutions do not have to be expensive or cost a lot! As long as sit organize what you have and helps to give everything a home, then it works! I love our solution to quickly store scrap wood! Yes I could have built a fancy container or spent a lot of money at a store to buy a bin specifically for scrap wood. But this great 45 gallon Rubbermaid Roughneck Trash Can is actually a perfect solution!
Because we like to do a lot of DIY projects and projects that involve wood, we have a lot of scrap wood in our garage! It was a mess, before we organized it!
This trash can is skinny and fits perfectly into our garage and allows for a lot of storage space without being bulky or too expensive. And for us it is a great solution to store our scrap wood. But whatever you are storing, just remember to get creative, use what you have and find solutions that work for your space!
